Career Opportunities

Post-graduation Opportunities

Graduates of the Geofutures program have a wide variety of academic and professional opportunities following their year of study at Rensselaer.

This includes the opportunity to develop an academic career through teaching positions at the undergraduate as well as graduate level of study.  Additionally, graduates of the program have the opportunity to continue with their own education by pursuing a PhD in design technology or history, theory, and criticism.

Examples include enrolling in the Built Ecologies PhD program at CASE (Center for Architecture, Science, and Ecology) based in New York City, which the Geofutures MSArch program provides ample preparation for by way of shared coursework and faculty.

Graduates of the Geofutures program also have a wide range of opportunities within the design professions, which include working for leading architecture firms and design institutions in New York City, Los Angeles, and other parts of the United States.

Finally, graduates of the program have in some cases started their own design firms within a year of graduating from the Geofutures program, working as the principal of a small design office.

Here are just a few examples of post-graduate activity by Geofutures alumni, which includes academic positions, design positions with leading architecture firms and design institutions in the United States, as well as independent design practice:
